Suitengu Festival

There are many Shinto shrines in Otaru, and annual festivals of these shrines concentrate in June.

Suitengu shrine's festival was on June 14,15,16, and it was full with people as usual.

At many stalls lining up along the sides of approach to the shrine, people were enjoying snacks such as Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Yakitori, Yakisoba and other foods that are common but available only at festival stalls.

Some of those stalls offer games for children, and the children who usually play mechanical computer games seem to enjoy those simple manual plays that are also obtainable only at the festival stalls.

Another major annual festival of this month will be held at Ryugu shrine from 20 through 22. This shrine is only a-few-minute-walk from JR Otaru Station. If you ever visit Otaru in this period, please visit this shrine and enjoy the festivity mingling with locals.
