I went to Noboribetsu known as a nice hot spring village in Hokkaido on my tour guiding trip last Friday (10th).
On the way to the hot spring, we visited Noboribetsu Marine Park NIXE, a theme park focusing on fish, marine mammals, sea creatures and some other animals.
I have never been there since we have a wonderful aquarium in Otaru, but NIXE has a different feature. The aquariums are housed in the castle-like building models after Egeskov Castle in Denmark, and gift shops and restaurants are also made replicating a Danish-style townscape.
As there is a small amusement park on the premises, NIXE can be a good place for the people of all generations to spend a holiday.
NIXE Castle is the main building of the park. There are see-through tunnels to see the activity of fish in this four-story building.
