Day Trip to Shakotan

Hokkaido's sightseeing season is in its height now.

It is very pleasant to visit seaside areas in this season.

If you are going to visit and stay in Otaru for a few days this summer, why don't you extend your visit to Shakotan Peninsula?

Shakotan is part of Niseko, Shakotan, Otaru quasi-national park, and its magnificent views of the coastline is well-known and attracts numerous visitors every summer.

You can take a day trip to Shakotan by bus. Please refer to Hokkaido Chuo Bus website, http://www.chuo-bus.co.jp.

Please find and click 'Sightseeing Route' in the page, then check titles under 'Hokkaido Nature Spectacular Tour'. You will find 'Spectacular Summer Shakotan Tour' in detail.

Sea urchin is in season now, don't miss good fresh sea urchin if you like it when you visit Shakotan!

Visit to Shakotan in winter (11 Dec)

Hi, we are visiting Otaru for 3 days in Dec. Is it wise to visit Shakotan during winter? If yes, what is your charges like for arranging a day trip or one night stay at Shakotan?

Hello Loy, Thank you very

Hello Loy,

Thank you very much for your interest in my blog.

I think it is better for you to visit Shakotan next summer. The best season to visit there is summer(May-August)when you can enjoy "Shakotan Blue", or autumn(late September-early October) when the autumn color of leaves are splendid.

You can drive along the coast to enjoy the magnificent views of rugged rocks, but it is often snowy and windy, and the sea is gray during winter.

However, winter is a good season to enjoy hot spring!

I really hope that you will have a wonderful time when you visit Otaru in December.

Thank you.

Tomoko
